We had a great day with students from Northeast High School. One of the main challenges facing manufacturers today is a growing gap in skilled labor. Our goal is to inspire more young people to pursue manufacturing careers. Inviting students to the Manufacturing Day event at APT was a wonderful opportunity for us to engage with youth and begin to ensure the future of manufacturing in the U.S.
The Vice Principal from Northeast High said Manufacturing Day made an incredible impact on the kids and in fact more than half of them declared after the tour that they wanted to pursue a career in manufacturing.

Advanced Protection Technologies, Inc. (APT), a company that designs, manufactures and sells American made surge protective devices, is scheduled to host an event on Manufacturing Day at their headquarters in Clearwater, Florida on Friday, October 4, 2013.
Manufacturing Day is devoted to eliminating the perception that manufacturing jobs are “dead end” jobs because the sector is shrinking. Events such as the Manufacturing Day allow companies to show these students that today’s manufacturing facilities are clean, high-tech environments with a wide variety of positions and career paths. “These students are the future of our industry and I believe every manufacturer should take an active role in developing a pipeline of future, highly skilled employees.” stated Andy Malcolm, President of APT.
APT will be giving a group tour to students in the "Back On Track" program at Northeast High School in St. Petersburg. The “Back On Track” program targets students who were unsuccessful in 9th grade. Past history shows that without intervention these kids will have a 82% drop out rate. Our role, which aligns perfectly with the Dream It Do It program, is to show them there are multiple high paying career paths in manufacturing but that they need to stay in school and get a High School diploma (at a minimum) to get their foot in the door.
